Rebuilding Traillii as a system

The name "Traillii" holds special meaning for Oriolus. It signifies rich musicality, natural frequency balance, and a refined sound that's easy to listen to for extended periods. The Traillii Ultra IEM System takes this philosophy a step further, pushing into a realm difficult to achieve with earphones alone, creating a reference IEM system. Unlike traditional passive multi-driver IEMs, it aims to operate each driver under ideal conditions by actively controlling frequency division and amplification from the amplifier side. In conventional multi-driver IEMs, signals output from a DAP or amplifier are often split by a passive network inside the earphones and sent to each driver. While this method excels in miniaturization and versatility, it can lead to inter-band interference, impedance fluctuations, phase distortion, and variations in operating conditions for each driver, sometimes causing unintended and excessive alteration. Rather than prioritizing miniaturization, this product is an integrated earphone system designed to handle sound accurately. Instead of splitting signals within the earphones, it delivers precisely divided low, mid, and high frequencies—processed by a dedicated DSP—to each driver group independently via dedicated analog amplifier circuits. This allows for ideal control of each driver, delivering the unembellished structure, localization, gradation, and lingering decay of music directly to your ears, making it a model for purists.

14 drivers per side meticulously integrated into a 3-way configuration

The dedicated earphones feature 14 drivers per side, consisting of 4 ESTs and 10 BAs. The high-frequency range is handled by 4 EST drivers and 2 BA drivers. The mid-frequency range uses 4 BA drivers. The low-frequency range employs 4 BA drivers. The driver configuration is optimized to suit the specific requirements of each frequency band, with the low, mid, and high frequencies driven by independent amplification circuits. By controlling each band according to its load characteristics, the capabilities of each driver are brought out more naturally. This results in high coherence and accurate reproduction of soundstage depth and reverberation. The mid-range has density and a sense of presence without overemphasizing proximity, allowing vocals, strings, and wind instruments to be positioned with a natural sense of distance, balancing a clear sound image with rich resonance. The extended high frequencies do not substitute resolution for harshness, carefully depicting harmonics, spaciousness, and the decay of reverberation while suppressing ear-fatiguing edges. The robust control, with a volume that doesn't muddy the overall contour, supports rich music by allowing the listener to perceive the entire structure of the music.

A Control Method Centered on the DPA10 Dedicated Amplifier for Proper Music Handling

Going beyond the typical handling of audio signals in IEMs, this product is designed to elevate dedicated IEMs to the same playback structure as a full-fledged multi-amp system. The dedicated amplifier DPA10 aims for a more ideal acoustic structure by precisely dividing the frequency bands in the digital domain, amplifying each band with independent analog circuits, and driving each driver under optimal conditions. The DPA10 plays a crucial role in integrating these elements into a single playback system, reproducing the structure and information of music as faithfully as possible, without excess or deficiency.

Purity supported by the high precision of a 32-bit digital 3-way crossover.

The DPA10's dedicated amplifier incorporates a digital 3-way crossover utilizing a 32-bit audio-specific DSP. Analog signals input via 3.5mm, 4.4mm, or RCA (LR) are split into low, mid, and high frequencies before amplification. By performing this processing in the digital domain with a dedicated 32-bit DSP, we achieve highly precise control over crossover points, filter characteristics, output balance for each band, and phase alignment. This allows for accurate crossover points, reproducible slopes, and phase alignment that closely approaches ideal values. We aimed for a flat frequency response within ±0.2dB and near-zero phase deviation. The precision with which each frequency band is assigned to its respective driver, along with their phase relationship and output balance, determines the stability of the sound image, the clarity of localization, the transparency of the sound field, and the natural coherence of the music. The DPA10's digital crossover precisely organizes the fundamental frequency bands and then naturally recombines them into a single, cohesive musical experience.

Overwhelming sense of power reserve, with each group of drivers driven by a separate amplifier

The DPA10 precisely divides low, mid, and high frequency signals using a DSP, separating them for the left and right channels, and outputs them as a total of 12 analog signals. These signals are sent to a two-stage, fully independent analog circuit. Each frequency band passes through dedicated analog amplification and buffer circuits, and each driver group is driven by completely separate power amplifiers. This ensures a high dynamic range and achieves low-distortion reproduction. The OP amp + BUF634 buffer configuration reduces the load on each driver, allowing for a more accurate depiction not only of volume changes but also of subtle nuances in dynamics, attack, and the decay of reverberation. Optimally handling independent, dedicated amplifiers for different driver load conditions within the earphones suppresses crosstalk between frequency bands and creates a state where each driver is less likely to exert unwanted influence on others. Rather than a resolution that flashy dissects sound, by separating amplifiers for each frequency band, we suppress the large movements in the low frequencies from clouding the subtle presence of the mid-high frequencies, and we establish a foundation where delicate high-frequency harmonics are less likely to be buried by other frequency bands. It is carefully assembled to naturally distribute roles among the frequency bands, enhancing the overall integrity and expressiveness of the music. Additionally, to achieve characteristics at minute volumes and natural volume changes, a high-quality ALPS analog volume control potentiometer is adopted.

Active Gain Adjustment for independent High/Mid/Low frequency tuning

The DPA10 features three gain adjustment toggles, corresponding to low, mid, and high frequencies. While it is designed to drive dedicated 3-way IEMs under ideal conditions, it is also intended to fine-tune slight balance differences that may arise due to the connected DAC or DAP, input level, user characteristics, or listening environment, bringing the playback closer to the originally intended ideal state.

Thorough, end-to-end sound quality design from signal input to output.

We treat the entire signal path, from input and output terminals to cables and connectors, as part of our sound quality design. The RCA/3.5mm input supports up to 2.0Vrms, and the 4.4mm balanced input supports up to 4.0Vrms. This specification is suitable not only for portable environments but also for connection with reference DACs.
A dedicated 6-pin connector is used on the earphone side. This is a special structure for transmitting low, mid, and high frequencies independently, based on a different design philosophy from common 2-pin or MMCX connectors. The pins are thicker to prioritize transmission capability and connection stability, with consideration for contact area, retention force, and signal stability. On the amplifier side, Hirose connectors, which are valued for their stability and reliability in professional equipment, are adopted. They provide secure connections, robust fastening, and peace of mind for long-term use. Sound quality is not solely supported by drivers and amplifier circuits. How signals are received, divided, amplified, and delivered—all of these aspects are subjects of our sound quality design.

A portable reference environment, with use cases limited only by the user's imagination.

This product, which boasts a reproduction structure similar to that of a full-fledged, stationary multi-amp speaker, will be useful not only for enjoying music but also for applications such as recording and mix checks. While not designed with everyday portability as its top priority, it features a 6000mAh lithium-polymer battery, allowing for approximately 9 hours of continuous use. Charging time is about 3 hours with fast charging and about 5 hours with normal charging. Despite adopting a 12-channel independent amplifier drive configuration, it ensures sufficient practicality for portable use.

Customization service to make a precision instrument uniquely yours

While it is a precise audio system, we also valued the affection one develops for a tool owned for a long time. As a service for purchasers of this product, you can freely change the design, such as the color and pattern of the earphone body, after purchase. This service allows you to finalize your long-term reference earphones as your own personal possession. The Traillii Ultra IEM System is an audio system where how sound is refined and handled has been completed without compromise, but ultimately, it is the user's own aesthetic that completes the product.

Original packaging that exudes the aesthetic sensibility of its sound design even before it's opened

To house the company's first earphone and amplifier system model, we adopted a Kishu lacquerware package in a deep, lustrous vermilion. This deep and glossy vermilion, meticulously layered by Japanese lacquer artisans, evokes the "Traillii JP" it's based on, while also subtly hinting at the sure lineage of Oriolus' flagship models, passed down continuously like the art of lacquerware. Accessories include a stacking band designed for system use, a dedicated clip, an L-shaped 4.4mm connection cable, a leather case for the amplifier, and Oriolus ear tips in various sizes. The top lid is engraved with a serial number, indicating that each unit has been carefully inspected.
